The
technical solution to combating mobile phone theft is to
block the SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) card OR
to block the handset itself by preventing the reprogramming
of the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI). The
first is easy as the person losing the phone can inform
the service provider who can then block the calls from the
SIM card. However, blocking the handset is more effective
than blocking the SIM card as the handset can be reused
by replacing the SIM card
An FIR can be lodged with the police, mentioning the identification
numbers of the SIM card and the handset (IMEI). This will
enable police to recover the lost mobile phone with the
help of the service provider |
